Grace and peace to all of you, people of St Max! We are finally resuming our normal mass schedule. Thank you to all who have been tuning in for web masses!

Our bishop is not requiring anyone to go to mass on the weekend, so I will keep doing those online masses until we are back to normal. However, there are some concrete instructions about returning that I need to pass on for you when you do decide to return to the church building.

  • If you are sick, please do not come to church. Doubly so if you have a fever.
  • The usual COVID rules apply. Wear your mask, and stay six feet away from people if you don’t live with them.
  • It’s important not to bunch up. Please fill our church from the front to the back, in order. Some pews will be marked with tape or pictures. This is to make sure we are spaced evenly, without wasting space. Cushions have been removed from the pews that we are using.
  • For communion, it’s still important to be six feet apart as you come forward. Reception will be in the hand, and gloves are actually discouraged at this time. Please wear your mask as you come forward, removing it only when consuming the Eucharist.
  • As I write this letter, buildings are only allowed to seat 25% of their maximum capacity. That’s around fifty people for each site.
  • Our daily mass schedule is also resuming, but has the same limit of 50. If the weekend becomes too crowded, I encourage people to seek out communion at a smaller mass during the week.
  • The 11:00 AM Sunday Mass in East Pembroke will be in the hall in order to fit more parishioners safely. It should be similar to Christmas Eve, but hopefully we are done with this before Christmas in July.
  • There will be no collection taken during the offertory. Instead there will be collection boxes located near the doors. Please drop your envelope or donation into the box when you enter or leave church.

For your safety, we will be cleaning and disinfecting the church after every service, including the pews and common contact points like door handles. We have added superior air filters to our air conditioners and furnaces which will filter out large particles like household dust and lint, dust mites, pollen and pet dander, small particles like bacteria and mold spores, smoke, smog, microscopic allergens, plus particles that can carry viruses.

Lastly, I want to thank you all for your continued support of St. Max. While we no longer had a collection on the weekend many of you sent in your support by mail or electronically. We’ve even had several really pleasant notes. Thank you so much! Our office remains open during the day if you need us and my cell is (716) 860-5475. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call the parish office and talk to Sue or call me directly.

Your cooperation, patience and understanding are appreciated while we work through this time together.

                                                                        God Bless,

                                                                        Rev. Daniel J. Serbicki
